Meinklang, Frizzante Epic
A progressive new biodynamic frizzante from Meinklang with delicate bubbles, light and refreshing. Unfiltered and therefore intentionally cloudy, the gentle fizz explodes in the mouth with intense grapefruit flavours and ripe nashi pears with a dash of natural sweetness. Epic 2022 was spontaneously fermented after the harvest and carbonated before bottling, so it is not a Pet Nat, but an uncomplicated sparkling wine - with epic drinking flow.
Ideal with salad, light dishes, and raw fish.
Notes: This wine is deliberately unfiltered so may appear cloudy.
Meinklang is an original, family-run mixed farm, set in the middle of the World Heritage Site of the National Park Neusiedlersee, on the Eastern side of the Neusiedlersee Lake, bordering directly on the Hungarian lowlands, where life’s diversity and complexity are celebrated. The inspiring Mitchlits family own and run the estate in the Burgenland region of Austria that fully captures the essence of the holistic philosophy that is so much a central core of biodynamics. This is the home of red-wine production, with a focus on Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch grape varieties. The Pannonian plain encourages warm, easterly winds which coupled with relatively high sunshine hours creates excellent conditions for the production of quality red wines. The mineral-rich volcanic soils are ideal for the vines. On their family estate, Meinklang, inspired by the biodynamic theories of Rudolf Steiner, created a totally self-sufficient agricultural and winemaking project that works in perfect harmony with nature. Their vineyards are surrounded by natural ponds and cover crops of wild grasses and herbs. But the real pride of the estate is a herd of Angus cattle that provides manure as fertiliser. This is why the bottle’s labels have a picture of a cow.
