Philippe Cheron Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Champonnet

Côtes de Nuits Pinot Noir

£104.95

The nose reveals layered aromas of ripe red and dark berries, subtle spice, and delicate earthy undertones, complemented by discreet notes of well-integrated oak. On the palate, Champonnet 1er Cru offers a balance of power and finesse. The texture is supple and smooth, with fine-grained tannins and a measured acidity that brings lift and precision. Flavours of cherry, raspberry, and plum unfold alongside hints of forest floor and gentle spice, leading to a long, composed finish.
Matured on its lees, and with around 25% new oak for 12 months.

Ideal with rich and traditional cuisine, particularly dishes rooted in Burgundian gastronomy such as œufs en meurette, beef bourguignon, or coq au vin. With a few years of bottle age, it gains further complexity and depth, making it an excellent companion to slow-cooked dishes like rabbit stew. Both structured and graceful, Champonnet 1er Cru is a wine that rewards patience while offering a compelling expression of its distinguished terroir.

Domaine Philippe Chéron is a small, family-run estate based in Nuits-Saint-Georges in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits, led by Philippe Chéron, who took over the family vineyards and began bottling under his own label in 2011. The domaine spans around 10 hectares across prestigious appellations including Vosne-Romanée, Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, and Clos de Vougeot. Working primarily with old-vine Pinot Noir, Chéron follows a low-intervention, sustainable approach in both vineyard and cellar, favoring native yeast fermentations and gentle extraction to preserve terroir expression. The wines are known for their purity, elegance, and structural finesse, reflecting both the heritage of the vineyards and a modern, precise winemaking style.
